Submit your orders for Pizza and Subway Days before October 13!

School Council organizes weekly pizza delivery and weekly Subway delivery, available to all students at AVPS, from Kindergarten to grade 8.  These programs are a great opportunity for a change from your usual packed lunches, while supporting fundraising efforts in order to enrich the environment for all students at AVPS!

Subway Fridays

Subway sandwiches will be delivered to the school on Fridays from October 20, 2023 – February 9, 2024 (12 Fridays). The students will receive their sandwiches in their classrooms during the first nutrition break.

Six-inch turkey, ham or veggie sandwiches are prepared on whole-grain bread and can include cheddar cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, mustard and/or mayonnaise (or no toppings for the particular palates). Each sandwich is $6.50, and the 12-week session costs $78.  Since sandwiches are customized, they must be ordered during the ordering period, and will not be available to purchase for cash individually.

Pizza Mondays

We are currently taking orders for the period from October 23, 2023 – February 12, 2024. Pizza will be delivered every Monday that the school is open during this time (16 Pizza Mondays). Panago Pizza, known for its fresh and delicious ingredients, and will be served on their great multigrain crust, in alignment with the OCDSB Food and Beverage Policy guidelines.

You can choose between plain cheese pizza, pepperoni, veggie (green peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes), or gluten-smart pizza with plant-based cheese, and select 1 or 2 slices per child. Pizza is $2.50 per slice, so when you sign up for the program the total cost of the 16-week session will be $40 per slice. The slices ordered will be delivered to your student’s homeroom class for first lunch, at 11:10am.

If you do not sign up for the pizza program by the deadline, then students in grade 1-8 still have the option to pay $2.50 cash at the school kitchen to buy a slice any Monday. This cash for a slice program is unfortunately not available to Kindergarten students.

Snow Out Blow Out – October 21

Get ready to declutter your garage and get ready for winter!

On Saturday, October 21, 2023:

  • between 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, bring in your winter sports equipment that you want to sell. Please make sure everything is clean and in good/safe working condition, and name your selling price. We will gratefully accept the following items:

Skates, Skating helpers, Skis, Ski boots, Ski bags, Snowboards, Snowboard boots, Snowboard bags, Hockey equipment, Hockey bags, Sleds, Snowshoes, Winter jackets, Snowsuits, Gloves/Mitts, Winter boots

We will not accept helmets.

  • between 1:00 – 3:00 pm, the cash-only, first-come, first-served Snow Out Blow Out will take place at AVPS. No items will be put on hold.
  • between 3:15 – 3:30 pm, If you brought in items to sell, please come to the school . If your item is sold, you will receive 70% of the sale price, and the remaining 30% will go to School Council to enrich the learning experience of all AVPS students. If your item did not sell, you must retrieve it. We cannot keep items for later pick-up and need to clear the gym.

Family Movie Night – Luck (October 27)

Alta Vista School Council is pleased to invite your family to our first Family Movie Night of the 2023-24 school year on Friday, October 27, 2023!

We’ll be showing Luck, rated G (1 hour 45 minutes). Doors and concession open at 5:30 pm, and the movie starts at 6 pm!

Admission is free! There will be hotdogs, goodies, and juice boxes for sale as a council fundraiser towards Athletic Council.

In order to keep this event as eco-friendly as we can, we’re encouraging families to bring their own reusable dish ware for their movie night food and snacks. Families are encouraged to bring cups or water bottles that can be refilled in the kitchen.

Children are welcome to wear their PJs and bring blankets, pillows and stuffies to get comfy in the gym. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers needed!

As always, the movie night organizers are grateful for the support of parent volunteers to help make movie night events a success. To sign up, please contact Dean Blachford.

Please consider bringing nut-free baked goods (homemade or store bought) for the concession by dropping them off at the office on the day of or bringing them to the movie night.

Welcome Back BBQ – Thursday, September 21

 

You are invited to Alta Vista Public School’s Welcome Back BBQ, on Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, in the primary yard. Please join us rain or shine!

To make this happen, we need your help: sign up here for a volunteer shift and please also bring a salad or dessert for the potluck table.

Meet the teacher – 4:30 – 5:30 pm

A great chance to see your child’s classroom; meet teachers, staff and other families.  Teachers will be sending home more information for each individual class.

BBQ – 4:30 – 6:30 pm

Please bring a salad or dessert for the potluck table: containers and serving utensils should be labeled and can be picked up after the event. Enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks for sale. Tickets for food and drinks will be sold at the BBQ. Please be sure to bring correct change for purchasing items.

Please RSVP using this link with your food preferences: the information from this survey will be used to help us plan for the event.

Delicious food catered by local restaurant Hometown Sports Grill:

Dress for the weather! We will have some seating, but you are welcome to bring blankets and chairs to the BBQ as well. Paper plates and napkins will be available, but to help reduce waste, we encourage you to bring your own water bottle and plate from home. Water bottles may be filled in the school.

Please note that there is no official supervision of your children after school hours. Please ensure children are supervised as needed.
