Save the Date: Spring Fair 2023 is on May 27!

The Spring Fair 2023 Committee just had their first planning meeting and we are excited to be bringing back a much loved event to our school community!

With that being said, we need YOUR HELP! In order to run as many events as possible, we need people to donate their time and be leads for specific events as well as volunteering on the day of.

Coordinators would be expected to plan their event in the lead up to Spring Fair, with support from the planning committee, help with set-up/take down on the day of and directing the volunteers assigned to their activity on the day of the fair.

The following roles and events are in need of a coordinator:

  • Volunteers: Arrange for volunteers to support Spring Fair
  • Communications: Help with drafting emails, creating posters, etc to promote Spring Fair
  • Outdoor games: Speaks for itself, help with planning and executing outdoor games for Spring Fair
  • Indoor games: These would be games held inside the school building and would generally be geared to younger children
  • Cake and Cupcake lottery: A perennial crowd favourite, arrange for the donation of cakes and cupcakes from volunteers, for this fun event as well as leading the set up, execution and take down of this event.

Please contact Melissa Extross if you are able to take on a coordinator role.

Additionally, we are happy to announce the return of our silent auction and class baskets!! These fair favourites will be back to provide the opportunity to bid on gift cards and certificates from local restaurants, museums and other attractions, as well as on fabulous gift baskets created by students and their families.

To help make these events a success, the planning committee is looking for some volunteers to help canvass local businesses for donations. We’re also happy to accept donations from parents in our school community. Please contact our silent auction coordinator Kathy if you can help or would like to make a donation. And stay tuned for more information about this year’s themes for the class baskets and when to send in donations.

School Council Meeting – March 22

You are warmly invited to attend School Council’s meeting on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 7-9 pm. All Alta Vista Public School parents and guardians with students in either in-person or virtual school are encouraged to attend.

Deals on Wheels consignment sale fundraiser – April 1

It’s time to declutter your garage and get ready for summer! And we have the event to help make that happen.

School Council is holding its second Deals on Wheels event on Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 2 – 3pm

Step 1 – Drop Off

On Friday, March 31, between 7:30 – 8:30 pm, bring in anything on wheels or sports equipment that you want to sell. Please make sure everything is in working order. Drop-off is in the small gym entrance from the outside beside Tennis courts.

We WILL gratefully accept:
-bikes ( all sizes kids to adults)
-scooters
-skateboards
-in-line skates
-strollers
-wagons
-sports balls
-baseball gloves/bats
-cleats
-life jackets

Please DO NOT bring:
-helmets
-clothing

Step 2

Name your selling price.

Step 3 – Sale

On Saturday, April 1, between 2 – 3 pm, Deals on Wheels will take place at Alta Vista Public School. This is a cash-only event. It is also first-come, first-serve. No items will be put on hold.

Step 4

If your item is sold, you will receive 70% of the sale price, and the remaining 30% will go to School Council to enrich the learning experience of all AVPS students.

Step 5 – Pick up

Please come to the school on Saturday, April 1, between 3:30 – 4:00 pm. If your item sold, you can pick up your money. If your item did not sell, you are welcome to retrieve it. The gym has to be cleared after the sale. If you don’t want your item back, please arrange to bring it to the Salvation Army. We cannot keep items for later pick up.
