Submit your orders for Pizza Mondays and Subway Fridays on, or before February 12

The school council organizes weekly pizza delivery and weekly Subway delivery, available to all students at AVPS, from Kindergarten to grade 8. These programs are a great opportunity for a change from your usual packed lunches, and are also a fundraiser for the school council. The money raised by the school council is spent on enrichment initiatives for the students, special requests for the classrooms, and special projects for the school.

We are now taking orders for students who wish to receive pizza and/or Subway from the end of February to June.

Place your order by using the School Cash Online program on, or before February 12, 2026. If you have never used School Cash Online to send money to the school (for voluntary school fees for example) then you will have to set up your account first. Online orders are preferred whenever possible, but paper order forms are also available in the school office. Paper orders must include cash in the correct amount.

Pizza Monday Details

We are currently taking orders for the period from February 23 to June 15.  Pizza will be delivered every Monday that the school is open during this time (13 Mondays). The pizza is coming from Panago Pizza, known for its fresh and delicious ingredients, and will be served on their great multigrain crust again this year, in alignment with the OCDSB Food and Beverage Policy guidelines. Your student(s) will have the choice between plain cheese pizza, pepperoni and cheese, veggie pizza (green peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes), or Gluten Smart pizza with plant-based cheese.  **Gluten Smart crust and dairy-free cheese available**

Pizza is $2.50 per slice, so the total cost of the 13-week program is $32.50 per slice.  The pizza will be delivered every Monday to your student’s classroom for their first nutrition break, at 11:10am.

Leftover slices will also be available for cash purchase at the school kitchen, available to any student in Grade 1-8 (but cash purchases are not available to Kindergarten students).

Are you willing to volunteer to help sort and distribute pizza on a Monday morning? It is quick and fun, and you can commit to just one shift or as many as you want. We really need volunteers to make this program possible! Contact Caryn to volunteer, or ask any pizza related questions.

Subway Friday Details

Six-inch Subway sandwiches will be delivered to the school on Fridays from February 20 to June 19 (15 Fridays). The students will receive their sandwiches in their classrooms during the first nutrition break. Turkey, ham, pepperoni, or veggie subs are prepared on whole-grain bread and can include cheddar cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, mustard and mayonnaise (or no toppings for the particular palates)!

Each sandwich is $6.50, so the total cost of the 15-week session per student is $97.50. Since sandwiches are customized, they must be ordered during the ordering period and will not be available to purchase for cash individually.

**Sandwiches can be prepared on gluten-free bread for an increased cost.** Please get in touch with Ana Flaman for more details, or if you are interested in volunteering with the Subway program on Fridays.

Family Movie Night – K-Pop Demon Hunters

Alta Vista School Council is pleased to invite your family to our next Family Movie Night on Friday, January 30.

We’ll be showing K-Pop Demon Hunters, rated PG (1 hour 39 minutes). Doors and concession open at 5:30 pm, and the movie starts at 6 pm!

Admission is free! There will be hotdogs, goodies, and juice boxes for sale as a council fundraiser towards the Grade 6 Year-End Trip.

In order to keep this event as eco-friendly as we can, we’re encouraging families to bring their own reusable dish ware for their movie night food and snacks. Families are encouraged to bring cups or water bottles that can be refilled in the kitchen.

Children are welcome to wear their PJs and bring blankets, pillows and stuffies to get comfy in the gym. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers needed!

As always, the movie night organizers are grateful for the support of parent volunteers to help make movie night events a success. To sign up, please contact Dean Blachford.

Please consider bringing nut-free baked goods (homemade or store bought) for the concession by dropping them off at the office on the day of or bringing them to the movie night.

Questions?

Please contact Dean Blachford.

We hope to see you and your family there!

AVSC Corner – December 2025

Goodbye 2025, Hello 2026!

As we prepare to close out 2025, I want to thank each and every one of you for all of your contributions to and engagement with our school community and various School Council initiatives.

In November, Council authorized more funding requests from the school, including:

  • Funds to support Cooking Club for grades 5 and 6 and Indigenous Club
  • Presentations by Scientists in Schools, the Wild Bird Care Centre, an Anti-Bullying Magic show, Masabo and Luv2Groove
  • New sensory tables for the Kindergarten classrooms and a sharpening stone for our skate sharpener

Our event and program coordinators and volunteers continue to do incredible work – from our pizza and sub food programs to Family Movie Nights, Gifts of Giving, Chili Night, Purdy’s chocolate and more!

As we approach this Winter Break, I hope everyone finds some time to relax, be with friends and loved ones, and have a chance to enjoy some of the amazing things happening around our city and within our community.

On behalf of all members of the Alta Vista School Council, I wish you all a festive holiday season and we look forward to seeing you in 2026 with more opportunities to engage with our community!

Warm wishes,

Melissa, AVSC Chair

Help Us Make a Bigger Impact at AVPS!

Our School Council is proud to fund so many of the “extras” that make our school amazing — from classroom resources and technology to outdoor improvements, guest speakers, and community events.

Now, you can make a tax-deductible donation through the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board that goes directly to our school!

Choose where your donation goes:

  • Grounds Renewal Fund – Help us transform our outdoor spaces into safe, engaging, age-appropriate areas for play and learning. Our school has a large yard, but it’s not being used to its full potential — your support will help us create spaces our kids truly love.
  • School Council Fund – Support school-wide needs, like upgrading large toys in the Kindergarten classrooms, bringing in enrichment groups for primary classes, and funding activities that enhance learning, community, and life skills for intermediate classes.

Double your impact: Many employers offer donation-matching programs — check with your HR department to see if your company will match your contribution. Federal employees can also give through the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) by choosing our school as the recipient.

To donate, visit our school website and at the top of the page, click the “Donate” button, or go to the “Quick Links” section then select “Donate to Alta Vista PS” from the menu.

Remember: If you’d like your gift to go to one of the funds above, please include “Grounds Renewal” or “School Council Fund” in the “Write a private message to us” field.
