Delivering New Experiences To AVPS!

October is almost through and with it brings some brand new experiences heading your kids way – over $7000 in enrichment activities, experiences, and opportunities across all grade levels!

Initiatives include:

  • Funds to support Intermediate Cooking Club, Junior and Intermediate Art Clubs, and painting new pickleball courts on the north side
  • Presentations by Scientists in Schools, STEAMpunks Discovery, and two puppet shows
  • Buses for Junior and Intermediate Cross Country meets, two entrance fees for
  • Intermediate Ultimate Frisbee tournament, and Rocks & Rings rental for curling
  • New bluetooth speaker for the gym, tables for events, and a puppet theatre for Kindergarten classrooms

Additionally, the Council voted to approve updating our constitution. Changes included adjustments to adopt more gender neutral terminology, retooling the Council structure to better reflect our membership base, and updates to policies, such as attendance, etc. A link to the newly updated constitution can be found here.

Help Us Make a Bigger Impact at AVPS!

Our School Council is proud to fund so many of the “extras” that make our school amazing — from classroom resources and technology to outdoor improvements, guest speakers, and community events.

Now, you can make a tax-deductible donation through the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board that goes directly to our school!

Here’s how you can help:

Choose where your donation goes:

Grounds Renewal Fund – Help us transform our outdoor spaces into safe, engaging, age-appropriate areas for play and learning. Our school has a large yard, but it’s not being used to its full potential — your support will help us create spaces our kids truly love.

School Council Fund – Support school-wide needs, like upgrading large toys in the Kindergarten classrooms, bringing in enrichment groups for primary classes, and funding activities that enhance learning, community, and life skills for intermediate classes.

Double your impact:

Many employers offer donation-matching programs — check with your HR department to see if your company will match your contribution.

Federal employees can also give through the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) by choosing our school as the recipient.

To donate, visit our school website here and click the “Donate” button at the top of the page, then select Alta Vista Public School from the drop-down list.

Remember: If you’d like your gift to go to one of the funds above, please include “Grounds Renewal” or “School Council Fund” in the “Write a private message to us” field.

Need more details? Email sc-altavistaps@ocdsb.ca and we would love to discuss this further with you!

Help Us Transform Our School Grounds!

Last year, the School Council embarked on a journey to revive our outdoor spaces. That journey has only just begun and we need everyone’s creativity, input, and networks to help design, develop, and fundraise for this goal. Imagine outdoor areas that inspire play, learning, and connection. That’s what we’re working toward, but we can’t do it alone.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Join the Grounds Renewal Committee – Bring your voice, ideas, or expertise in design, landscaping, or project management.
  • Lead or Support Fundraising – Are you experienced in fundraising or event planning? We need champions to help us reach our goal and new ways to tap into funds.
  • Make a Connection – Do you know a business, community partner, or grant program that might support this project? Introduce us!
  • Volunteer Your Time – Even small contributions of time & energy will push this forward.

Interested? Email sc-altavistaps@ocdsb.ca and let’s build a schoolyard that matches the creativity and energy of our students.
