Good evening Mr Carson,
Thank you for the answers you have provided thus far and the communication to our community.
Although its good news that the heating system seems to be operating fine so far, in reference to “no leaks were observed”, the way this is worded makes it sounds like minimal testing was undertaken. This is disappointing as this an opportunity to carry out preventative measures during peak daytime hours while school is closed.
Can you please clarify based on your update, not all of our questions were answered
Status of Repair:
- Areas sealed off on Monday around mid day – is incorrect our information clearly has it that it was near end or after school, and students assisted in clearing out the affected areas
Follow up on Mould testing:
- Since source of moisture has been corrected and cleaning has been continues – The rooms where Grade 1’s will be are they adequately clean, not just mopping and dusting through out the rest of the building
Decision Points on Re-opening:
- is the steam plant fully operational?
- Is there a report that specifically indicates where pipes were reviewed. We would expect review of many pipes as possible around the school and or monitoring of pressure gauges around the school.
- What testing procedures were implemented to check for leaks for the Board to sign off that the heating system is working properly.
- No mention was made of fully testing the heating system to its design capacity or full operating range. Has the heating system been tested to replicate -30 C outside temperature, for example?
It is important that these questions be addressed prior to the decision to open the school so that parents can feel reassured that the environment is safe for students and staff.
Thank you,
Janice Chamberlain and Nancy Solange-Dean
