In two weeks all the FUN happens!!  Saturday May 4th, from 10:00 am till 2:00 pm

The funds raised during these FUN FILLED 4 hours provides a whole school year’s worth school activities such as Dance workshops, busses for trips, mindfulness sessions, skate sharpening, and so much more!

We hope you can join us for this great event!  Every year our AV families gathers together to share foods from all of our cultures.  The variety is amazing and incredibly delicious!

This year we will be hosting two wonderful professional artist  for your entertainment.  It will be family event you will not want to miss.

POTLUCK DINNER

Arrival at 5:30 p.m. sharp is appreciated so that the food can be set out to enjoy. Please bring sufficient food and drink for your family and 3 or more additional people. Please supply ingredients of dish for dietary and allergy purposes. Please no peanuts or nut products.  Tea and coffee will be provided.

Dinner served at 6:00 pm..

CULTURAL PRESENTATION

Rhonda Doxtator

Hoop dancing  7:00– 7:45 p.m.

The hoop dance originates from the nations of the southwestern United States. Traditionally used as a medicine, with hoops made from willow branches and primarily danced by the men, this dance has since evolved and changed to what it is today. The intent and purpose remains the same:a medicine to lift the spirits of the people by honouring creation, through this storytelling dance.

Rhonda Doxtator is from the Oneida nation of Southern Ontario. Her name is Kawisaha,which means “She is Carrying Ice” and is from the turtle clan. Rhonda has been a pow wow dancer for 30 years. Her passion lies within the cultural arts of dancing,singing and regalia making.

Spring Fair Planning Committee and Coordinators

Hey Alta Vista!  We had our first Spring Fair planning meeting.  We are excited about another great event.  We are bringing back all the great activities you love!   HELP US – more hands are needed.   Specifically we are looking for a few people to be leads for specific activities on the day.   There will be more day-of volunteers needed as well.

Coordinators NEEDED:

Generally coordinators help lead a specific area/activity.  You would help with set up/clean up of the activity at the Spring Fair and lead the event day volunteers in that activity.  Time requirement: About 5 hours on May 4th.  9:30 – 2:30 pm.  And if possible some coordination prior to event, such as supply shopping.  You are invited to the committee  meetings if you would like to attend but not mandatory.  

White Elephant:With a team of volunteers two weeks prior coordinate the incoming donations.  Volunteers bring donations to gym loft area and sort as donations arrive. Then event day assist with set-up and support volunteers.

Twoonie Toss:  Set up/take down and man the event. Involves handling the twoonies and giving $ to treasurer at the end of the fair. 

Plant Sale: Saturday set up/take down plant donations.  If you have knowledge of plant care – BONUS!.  Also if you have enthusiasm can have fun growing seeds to be part of the sale

Penny Auction: Set up and take down.    Friday: about an hour- taking items from donations and creating themes create the auction items/baskets to bid on and set up the auction with a small team of volunteers.  Can be as creative as you wish.  If you have enthusiasm can come up with other items/themes that Penny Auction can host as well

Jelly Bean Guess: Have fun with this.  Put the guessing jar together and make as  inviting as possible.

Face Painting:  A fair FAVE!  Set up and take down of Face Painting room.  With team of volunteers face paint for the day.  Again any ideas are welcome to make this a really fun experience for the fair goers

Cupcake walk:  Another favourite for the little ones.  Set take down of cupcake walk with assistance from volunteers.  All materials provided.
