Book Fair – November 23-25, 2022 (in person and virtual)

Our annual book fair, featuring Scholastic books, is back in person from Wednesday, November 23, to Friday, November 25, and the virtual book fair will also be available if you can’t make it in person. Be sure to look out for the Scholastic Flyer that will be sent home with your child.

It will be an exciting way to continue to give our students the enthusiasm and opportunity to select books they want to read. Plus 20% of sales will go toward helping out our school with more books for the classrooms.

The virtual event

You can shop the Alta Vista Public School Book Fair for all your favourite books as of November 23. Shopify is a great site that contains a picture of a book cover, a description and price, and titles are organized by age group as well as by bestsellers, etc.

The books purchased will be shipped to the school and will be delivered to your child in class. The books will be packed so they cannot see what is inside if it is a gift.

Please Read:

  • Please put your student’s name as the “One Ordering” so it can be delivered to the appropriate person. If you put your name in as the “One Ordering” we don’t know the student’s parents’ names and can’t deliver to the right child/classroom.
  • If for some reason you really don’t want it to be delivered to the child please put MAIS KIRYAKOS as the “One Ordering” and we will make time to pick it up at a specific location. You will need to send Mais your order number and contact info so she can get it to you.

The in-person event

It will take place in the gymnasium on

  • Wednesday, November 23, from 9 am – 3:30 pm
  • Thursday, November 24, from 9 am – 8 pm (Family Night* and Parent/Teacher interviews)
  • Friday, November 25, from 9 am -12 pm (PA Day)

The Student Wish List on page 2 of the Junior flyer allows your student to list what books he/she would like, and then you can send your student to the Book Fair with the correct amount of money. Volunteers will help them find and purchase the books. The Senior flyer is also available for your perusal.

*Family Event
On Thursday, November 24, the Book Fair is open to families from 6-8 pm. Come see the wide selection of books to purchase, including great ideas for birthday and holiday gifts, too!

Volunteers needed!

We cannot run this exciting Book Fair without the help of volunteers. It’s a rewarding opportunity to share in the kids’ excitement about the fair. High school student volunteers can earn community service hours as well (set up and clean up shifts are student-friendly!)

As a Book Fair volunteer you:

  • enjoy helping students find appropriate books,
  • help them make their book purchases,
  • meet other parents,
  • get a preview of books,
  • see excited student faces and
  • make this fun annual fundraising event a success.

Please sign up for your preferred shift here.

Family Movie Night – Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania

Alta Vista School Council is pleased to invite your family to our first Family Movie Night since 2020 on Friday, October 28, 2022!

We’ll be showing Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania, rated PG (1 hour 28 minutes). Doors and concession open at 5:30 pm, and the movie starts at 6 pm!

Admission is free! There will be hotdogs and goodies for sale as a council fundraiser for gym equipment.

In order to keep this event as eco-friendly as we can, we’re encouraging families to bring their own reusable dishware for their movie night food and snacks, as well as using the reusable dishware from breakfast club. We’ll also be phasing out the sale of bottled water, and encourage families to bring cups or water bottles that can be refilled in the kitchen.

Children are welcome to wear their costumes or PJs and bring blankets, pillows and stuffies to get comfy in the gym. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers needed!

As always, the movie night organizers are grateful for the support of parent volunteers to help make movie night events a success. In particular, we’d welcome any bakers who’d like to contribute peanut and nut-free treats or snacks, which can be dropped off at the office on the day of the event.

Questions? Please contact Dean Blachford.

We hope to see you and your family there!
