Date change: School Council to meet on January 22

A New Year’s invitation for you – join us for a meeting this year! We have only 5 more meetings left this year and it’s the best way to find out what is happening at the school.  Come meet other parents and find out important information.

Our regularly scheduled meeting is moved to Wednesday, January 22nd, as school activities on Wednesday January 15th are cancelled due to the planned Strike Action. The agenda and draft December minutes are available for reference.

We hope that you are able to attend! Child minding is available.

Family Movie Night – Abominable

Alta Vista School Council is pleased to invite your family to our first Family Movie Night of the new year on Friday, January 17, 2020.

We’ll be showing Abominable, rated PG (1 hour 37 minutes). Doors and concession open at 5:30 pm, and the movie starts at 6 pm!

We’re excited to be running this event as a fundraiser to support our school’s Band and Orchestra!

In order to keep this event as eco-friendly as we can, we’re encouraging families to bring their own reusable dishware for their movie night food and snacks, as well as using the reusable dishware from breakfast club. We’ll also be phasing out the sale of bottled water, and encourage families to bring cups or water bottles that can be refilled in the kitchen.

Admission is free! Juice, popcorn, pizza, samosas, hot dogs and treats will be offered for sale as a Council fundraiser. We will also be offering coffee and tea for adults at a new “parent café,” (reusable mugs encouraged). 

Children are welcome to wear their PJs and bring blankets, pillows and stuffies to get comfy in the gym. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers needed!

As always, the movie night organizers are grateful for the support of parent volunteers to help make movie night events a success. In particular, we’d welcome any bakers who’d like to contribute peanut and nut-free treats or snacks. We will be coordinating volunteers for this event via Signup Genius.

You are INVITED to our last School Council Meeting for 2019

Hello Alta Vista,

We invite you to our last meeting of the year!   We have few items to wrap up and then it’s time to celebrate!

Please join us this Wednesday Dec. 18th at 7:00 pm in the library for a short meeting followed by Holiday Cheer.  If possible an RSVP to altavistasc@gmail.com would be appreciated.

We are striking a new special committee to continue with follow up to AVPS repairs and school environment.  We are opening this up for to anyone who is interested in follow up from repairs as well as keeping informed about the condition of the school.   This committee would meet as needed with minimum two-four meetings a year.   Please email altavistasc@gmail.com if you are interested.

Also, at our Meeting Nov. 27th.  Trustee Chris Ellis offered to work with few parents on Process and Policy changes to bring to OCDSB board.  If you are interested, Please email altavistasc@gmail.com us letting us know. We will forward names to Trustee Ellis.

Almost here…Gifts of Giving 2019!

Thanks to all for your generosity. We are almost ready for Gifts of Giving 2019!

 
We are short gift bags and tissue paper. Please consider sending along a couple of gift bags for your gifts to come home in.
 

Gift Ambassadors and Gift Wrappers are needed. Grandparents, friends and neighbours are welcome to enjoy the day with us, too! A few more adults from 11 am – 1 pm and 1 – 3 pm would really help make this celebration run smoothly. Please sign up at VOLUNTEER HERE!.

Gifts of Giving is Friday, Dec. 13. During the school day, each student will have the chance to select two gifts. Each item is $2.
 
Students are welcome to bring up to $4 to school beginning Dec. 12 (toonies and loonies, please!) to enjoy “shopping” for their loved ones. (Teachers will collect money in the classroom.)  

Donations of toonies* and/or your time to this feel-good fundraiser are much appreciated!  

* Donations (toonies) are gratefully requested but not required. All students will have the opportunity to select two gifts this Friday.

Students are getting so excited, talking about gifts for all occasions: birthdays, holidays, family, friends and even their pets🐶.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR DONATIONS. 

Proceeds go to School Council’s outreach initiatives that support our community.
