Thanks to all for your generosity. We are almost ready for Gifts of Giving 2019!
We are short gift bags and tissue paper. Please consider sending along a couple of gift bags for your gifts to come home in.
Gift Ambassadors and Gift Wrappers are needed. Grandparents, friends and neighbours are welcome to enjoy the day with us, too! A few more adults from 11 am – 1 pm and 1 – 3 pm would really help make this celebration run smoothly. Please sign up at VOLUNTEER HERE!.
Gifts of Giving is Friday, Dec. 13. During the school day, each student will have the chance to select two gifts. Each item is $2.
Students are welcome to bring up to$4 to school beginning Dec. 12 (toonies and loonies, please!) to enjoy “shopping” for their loved ones. (Teachers will collect money in the classroom.)
Donations of toonies* and/or your time to this feel-good fundraiser are much appreciated!
* Donations (toonies) are gratefully requested but not required. All students will have the opportunity to select two gifts this Friday.
Students are getting so excited, talking about gifts for all occasions: birthdays, holidays, family, friends and even their pets🐶.
THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR DONATIONS.
Proceeds go to School Council’s outreach initiatives that support our community.

The second Winter Break Gifts of Giving event will take place during the day at Alta Vista Public School on Friday, December 13 (save the date), in the main gym. This year, all proceeds will be directed toward School Council outreach initiatives.
This event provides students with an affordable opportunity to shop for their loved ones while providing you with the chance to rid your home of clutter.
Until December 11, gift items can be donated in the box in the main lobby of the school.
We will gratefully accept new or gently used items – toys, stuffed animals, costume jewellery, games, sports equipment (balls and gloves) and DVDs. If it is something your child(ren) would enjoy giving or receiving, we will be happy to accept it! Please, nothing breakable, and no books.
We are also in need of donations of gift bags and tissue paper.
During the day December 13, students will shop for their loved ones at the Winter Break Gifts of Giving. Each item will cost $2. Volunteers will wrap purchases using the donated gift bags and tissue paper.
We need volunteers!
Volunteers are needed for the evening of December 12 (set-up) and during the day December 13 (wrapping, assisting and clean-up).
After repair work last week and the reopening of the school today, Alta Vista School Council is pleased to invite your family toFamily MovieNight onFriday, November 29, 2019(save the date). We’re looking forward to a fun event and a chance to unwind with our school community.
We’ll be showing The Secret Life of Pets 2rated PG (1 hour 26 minutes). Doors and concession open at 5:30 pm, and the movie starts at 6 pm!
We’re excited to be running this event as a fundraiser to support AVPS’s“Nature Warriors”club. The Nature Warriors will use the proceeds from this event to help them buy materials to build “seating boxes” around the trees in the Kinder yard to enhance their viability and growth. Such a cool idea to care for our school’s outdoor environment!
In order to keep this event as eco-friendly as we can,we’re encouraging families to bring their own reusable dishware for their movie night food and snacks, as well as using the reusable dishware from breakfast club. We’ll also be phasing out the sale of bottled water, and encourage families to bring cups or water bottles that can be refilled in the kitchen.
Admission is free!Juice, popcorn, pizza, samosas, hot dogs and treats will be offered for sale as a Council fundraiser. We will also be offering coffee and tea for adults at a new “parent café,” (reusable mugs encouraged).
Children are welcome to wear their PJs and bring blankets, pillows and stuffies to get comfy in the gym. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Volunteers needed!
As always, the movie night organizers are grateful for the support of parent volunteers to help make movie night events a success. In particular, we’d welcomeany bakers who’d like to contributepeanut and nut-freetreats or snacks. We will be coordinating volunteers for this event viaSignup Genius.
Questions? Please contact Erika Van Neste (Erika.thornton@gmail.com or by phone or text at 613-447-8338).
We hope to see you and your family there!

Even though this is totally true and we are appreciate that repairs are made, continue to be made and proper protocol re: asbestos and mould removal are in place, we still have concerns about the reasons the leak occurred, how the response to the leak was carried out and the lack of communication about all of this.
Repairs will continue for some time. being done and thus school schedules/routine will need to be adjusted
On Wednesday the 27th there will be a meeting with OCDSB and our school community where we will discuss this more. More information to come
For tomorrow if your child is not going to school due to concerns of repairs can you please state that when you call in your child’s absence so that this can be tracked.
If you have any concerns please write to school to let school know. This helps school and board understand the level of parent concern. We ask that you kindly CC
