Students can bring cash to buy books, posters or stationary items.  Debit and Credit Card also accepted.

Don’t forget FAMILY NIGHT on Thursday – we are open till 8:00pm.  Want a PD day activity?  Bring them to the book fair, open 9:00 am till noon.

If you are planning to volunteer to help out with your child’s class, consider making it a longer stay and join our volunteer team!

Subway Mondays are back!

Online ordering is open until Wednesday, November 13!

Proceeds from sub sales go to School Council to support school programs and the student experience. A very worthy cause!

Subs will be delivered on Mondays from November 18, 2019 until February 10, 2020 (not including days when the school is closed), and will be served during the first nutrition break at 11:25.

Subs will be served by:

 

Subs are $4.50 each and can be customized for your student. Choose from ham, turkey or veggie subs, that can be topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and mayonnaise or mustard (but not both).

ORDER ONLINE *  until November 13. Subs will not be available to purchase for cash. Please place your order during the online ordering period.

Volunteers needed!

Looking to give back to the school? We operate from 11:00-11:30 am on Mondays, and depend on our generous group of volunteers to make this fundraiser a success. You can sign up for a single or multiple shifts when you place your order.

Alta Vista Book Fair 2019

Wed. Nov. 13th to Friday Nov. 15th

Our annual book fair, featuring Scholastic and Usborne books, is back November 13-15th in the gym (save the date)! For every $10 spent at this fair, up to $6 goes back to the school as books and educational resources for the library and individual classes!

Come and visit the French Book fair with many French titles to choose from.

Class Visits

The students will be visiting the fair with their classes either Wednesday or Thursday. Information will be sent home with your child.

Student Wish List

The Student Wish List on the back of the Junior flyer allows your child to list what books he/she would like, and then you can send your child to the Book Fair with the correct amount of money. Volunteers will help them find and purchase the books. The Senior flyer is also available for your perusal.

Family Event

On Thursday, November 14, the Book Fair is open to families from 6-8 pm (save the date). Come see the wide selection of books to purchase, including great ideas for birthday and holiday gifts, too!

We are also open Friday PD day from 9:00 – Noon.

We accept cash, cheques, all credit cards and even debit! Cheques are payable to Alta Vista School Council.

Classroom Wish List – A gift for the classroom

You can purchase books as a donation for your child’s classroom! Look for the Classroom Wish list display at the fair. Each teacher will have a list of books he/she would love to have in the classroom. Our volunteers can help you locate books. Every gift will be recognized: a bookplate will show the class that the book was donated and by whom.

Usborne Books – On Site with great books

We have a great curated selection of Usborne books this year, with the option for online sales of Usborne’s collection as well: please be sure to specify delivery for Alta Vista Public School.

AVPS Athletic Council will also be hosting a bake sale!

Volunteers needed!

Be an Arctic Adventurer and sign up for one or more volunteer shift(s). Please sign up online, or contact Mais at maiskiryakos@gmail.com. High school student volunteers will receive community service hours if they volunteer (set up and clean up shifts are student-friendly!)

As a Book Fair volunteer you:

  • enjoy helping students find appropriate books,
  • help them make their book purchases,
  • meet other parents,
  • get a preview of books,
  • see excited student faces and
  • make this fun annual fundraising event a success.

Available shifts:

  • Tuesday, November 12 (set-up): any time between 3:30-8:00 pm
  • Wednesday, November 13 : 9-12; 12-2; and 2-4 pm
  • Thursday, November 14: 9-12; 12-3; 3-5:30; and 5:30-8 pm
  • Friday, November 15 (PD Day) : 9-12 and clean-up from 12-3 pm

Spirit Wear is now available for order: great gift ideas, and perfect to show your AVPS pride!

Choose from hoodies, sweatpants, cotton and performance tees, caps and toques that can be customized with the student’s name.

To prepare your order:

  1. Choose items and sizes: For more information on sizes, please see the youth sizing chart or adult sizing chart, and how to measure. Note:
    • the Custom Toque with pom-pom is made large, and is great for older youth and adults. More of trendy slouchy hat on youth.
    • The baseball cap has Velcro back.
  2. Decide which items to customize with a name. Customized items are final sale – no exchanges or returns.
  3. Choose your preferred delivery option:
    1. Your child’s Class or
    2. Arrange pick up (if this is a gift, pick up can be arranged for interview night, Thursday, November 14 between 4-8 pm, which coincides with the Book Fair)

Note: Exchanges are only possible if there is enough stock available.
