School Council Speaker Series: Helping Your Child Manage Stress, Worry, and Anxiety

Tomorrow Night  — Thursday, Mar. 20th from 7 to 8:30pm in the School Library 

As part of our Council Speaker’s Series, we will be featuring a talk by Aimee Anderson (BA, BSW, MSW, RSW). The evening will be devoted to detecting the signs and symptoms of stress, worry, and anxiety, and providing the tools to respond to your child’s needs and help them develop good stress management.

Calendar Update: March School Council Meeting

Our next School Council Meeting will be held on:

WEDNESDAY, 26 MARCH from 7-9pm in the school library
rather than on Wednesday, 19 March as was previously scheduled.

Agenda items to include the School Improvement Plan, and parking and safety issues at the school.

There is a wonderful group that gather for the meetings and new faces are ALWAYS WELCOME!

OSTA Will Hold Public Consultation on AVPS Proposed Bell Time Changes

Please note that the OSTA will be hosting a public consultation session regarding the new proposed bell times for Alta Vista Public School.  This session will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 7-9pm at Brookfield High School (824 Brookfield Rd.)  Make sure your voice is heard!  If you cannot attend the consultation session there are other ways to express your concerns, support and/or ideas with respect to the proposed new bell times.  Find out how in their newsletter:

Hera Mission W5 Documentary airing on CTV

This Saturday — March 8 at 7:00 pm  
AVPS Grade One students were involved with this documentary!
Devlin Taillon is a grade one student in Mme. Mullins’ class.  Devlin’s mom, Peggy Taillon, is the President and Founder of the HERA Mission, a non-profit organization that has been working with over 300 inspiring orphans and 100 unstoppable widows, grandmas and great grandmas in Western Kenya.  The HERA Mission works in the village where Devlin was born.
Devlin and Peggy returned to Kenya on December 30th for his first visit back since his adoption.  Prior to their trip, W5 filmed the grade one students in the gym signing a big banner to be presented to the children in Kenya.
